On both November 21 and November 22, everyone in the school had the opportunity to help the community by participating in two community clean-ups: the first was sponsored by the junior class, and the second was sponsored by William and Mary’s CKI club.
Firstly, on Friday, November 21, students gathered near the tennis courts outside the school before heading on a trek. This walk ended at the county’s Adopt-a-Spot location at Governor’s Land and Greenspring Road. Here, students began working hard by picking up trash of all kinds left on the side of the road.
Next, members of the Jamestown Key Club assisted the William and Mary CKI Club in their effort on Saturday morning November 22. During this time, the students cleaned up a section of the road from Jamestown Road to Landfall Drive.
Although it is not a glamorous task, cleaning up is very important to our community. According to the Keep America Beautiful survey from 2020, almost 50 billion pieces of trash are found along U.S. roads and waterways. Even just one person helping out in the effort to combat waste and pollution in the environment can make a difference.
Thank you to everyone who helped out to make these events possible! If you are interested in helping with future activities to make our community a better place, please contact Ms. Hayden.
