Each year, the musicians of Jamestown get the opportunity to attend a trip and this year, from January 22nd to 25th, members of the Jamestown Choir, Band, and Orchestra traveled to Disney World for a fun weekend filled with exciting roller coasters, beautiful music, and delicious food. Freshman Kiera Sohoni, a member of the Jamestown choir and band, was enthusiastic about attending. “The opportunity meant a lot to me because it was a chance to have such a fun experience with my school and do something that not many people get the chance to do,” she said.

Each of the three groups that went on the trip participated in activities relating to their musical talents. The choir and orchestra attended a workshop where they practiced their musical skills, learned two Disney songs and recorded the finished product. On the other hand, the band participated in a parade down Main Street, USA, the entrance of the park. Kiera states, “Going to the Imagination Workshop and singing and recording two Disney songs with the choir was such a special opportunity.”
Besides music, the Eagles spent time in many other ways at the resort. Freshman Meghan Matyjas, a Marching Eagle and member of the choir, said, “We went to Chicken Guy (a restaurant in Disney Springs), we went shopping in Disney Springs, we went to the park to ride all the rides, and we also watched fireworks.” On top of this, many students also went to different parks each day to make the most out of their short time there. Disney is notorious for its long lines, but some students claim that some of the most notable memories were made during this seemingly boring wait. As Meghan said, “I feel like the best part was waiting in line and getting to talk with everyone.”

A big surprise appeared at the end of the trip! Because of the monstrous winter storm throughout the majority of the Southeast, two of the three groups had their flights canceled due to the weather and had to ride a bus back home. However, this didn’t stop anyone from enjoying the trip. Sohoni, whose group’s flight was cancelled, still made the most of it. “We had a whole extra day at Disney and then we rode a bus home. We stopped at Buc-ee’s on the way which was exciting for everybody,” she said.
The Disney Trip was truly an exhilarating event. “I know a lot of schools don’t have this kind of opportunity to go on a trip with their school, so I’m thankful that I was able to have this opportunity. A big thank you to Mr. Rapach, Mr. Baker, and Mr. Hederer for making this happen,” Meghan said. Make sure to stay tuned for information on next year’s trip!
