The SETC is the Southeastern Theater Conference. It is an outlet for many theatre groups, including our One Act here at Jamestown, to perform and compete to see who has the best original plays. There were hundreds of schools competing in the program and over 33 other shows to compete against. This conference serves as an outlet for groups with dedication and ambition towards their passion of crafting and performing their plays.
It all started back in October, when the One Act group went to VTA (Virginia Theatre Association) for a competition of their one act play. They secured the first-place title in their category and went to work on perfecting their production with the judges remarks in mind. Once they had met the strict requirements to get in, they could finally perform their final shows.
“We had three set pieces, and we had to cut our show from forty-five minutes to thirty minutes… it only took us about a week of rehearsal to cut it down to thirty minutes, which was very impressive and fun for us.”-Sasha Ryan Polk (Grade 12)
By the final performance day, the group was prepared and ready to shine. They gave it their best effort and delivered. Sasha Ryan said, “We like to think we’re a well-oiled machine, if a line is dropped, somebody knows to pick it up.” The group is a brilliant example of what it takes to succeed.
This experience has been a wild ride for our one act friends at Jamestown. They have put so much hard work and effort in making a first-place worthy production and have made Jamestown proud!
