This is a poem that was submitted to us by a Jamestown student. We appreciate the time Noelle Ferreria took to write this wonderful piece of literature. For anyone that would like to submit any of their work you now can by going to our home page and clicking “Creative Writing” to submit your work. Again, thank you Noelle for this wonderful poem.
As the sunsets grow later and the days get hotter
Students everywhere begin to ponder
Feelings of excitement, nerve, and glee
Summer’s almost here… but what does that mean?
Freshmen all sigh as they survived their first year;
They were strong and adjusted without any fear.
Sophomores can’t wait for prom in the spring;
It’s time to think of college- that controversial thing.
Juniors can’t wait to have just one year left;
They’ve come so far, marks of triumph and heft.
Seniors are those that we all will miss;
They are the ones who will soon reminisce:
The four years they spent in these towering halls
The laughter, the pain, the leaps, and the falls.
Each one is loved beyond compare;
The fact that they’re leaving is truly unfair.
But they have their whole lives to look ahead to;
They know they wouldn’t be here without me or you.
Doctors, scientists, trade workers all
McDonald’s, Wendy’s, even the mall
No matter where you end up to be in the end,
Know that we’re proud– you’ve been a great friend
The sun’s getting hotter, the leaves grow more green;
Take a deep breath and look where you’ve been.
The world keeps spinning round and round the sun
Make this summer great- be safe, and have fun!
